Research Study Coordinator, RADAR

Job Summary:

The Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing (ISGMH) is seeking applicants for a Research Study Coordinator on the RADAR project’s biomedical team. This position performs biomedical &/or social-behavioral research by administering tests &/or questionnaires following protocols; collecting, compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering information; performing rapid HIV testing and counseling; performing venipuncture & processing samples for analysis; conducting outreach to support participant recruitment efforts; regularly engaging with study participants via email, phone, text, and social media platforms; & assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. Responsibilities also include oversight of study operations, assisting management with project management assignments, and oversight of Research Study Assistant(s). Research Study Coordinator will complete all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).

Please note: Saturday and evening hours will be required. This position will be based off campus, at the Center on Halsted. 

Supervisor provides objectives, detailed deadlines and general instructions.  Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and compliance with instructions, practice, policy and procedures.  EE meets frequently with supervisor to obtain instructions regarding general phases of work and in some cases as to specific details.

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Recruits study participants
  • Reviews & obtains informed consent.
  • Schedules study visits with participants
  • Conducts interviews
  • Collects survey data.
  • Reviews medical records.
  • Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.

Administration

  • Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.                
  • Performs scientific literature searches in support of research             .
  • Completes portions of grant applications &/or documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.          

Finance

  • Monitors and distributes petty cash.  

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.   
  • Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

  • Experience working with LGBTQ+/SGM/TGNC/gender-expansive individuals, specifically youth
  • Must be comfortable discussing sex, sexual health, mental health, substance use, gender identity, sexuality, and HIV using a non-judgmental, strengths-based approach
  • Familiarity with basic computer programs including Microsoft Excel/Word/Ppt, Adobe, Google

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years direct service experience working with clients/participants in clinical and/or other community setting
  • HIV/STI pre-/post-test counseling and rapid test administration
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred, but not required

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Experience working with individuals living with and/or vulnerable to HIV/AIDS
  • Experience working with people who use drugs
  • Familiarity with Chicago-area social services and resources related to youth, health, housing
  • Phlebotomy experience helpful but not required
  • Experience using research database software including REDCap and Qualtrics
  • Familiarity using social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and dating apps

Target hiring range for this position will be between $19.31 - $24.14 per hour.  Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
