Lauren B. Beach Receives NHLBI K12 Award for CADENCES HIV Project

ISGMH is proud to announce that our faculty member and Associate Director of the EDIT Research Program, Dr. Lauren B. Beach, has been named an inaugural Third Coast HIV-related Cardiovascular and Sleep Disorders Career Development Program K12 (TC-CS K12) Scholar. Through the K12, Dr. Beach will receive 2 years of funding to support the success of her project, “CVD Algorithm Designed to Elucidate Consequences of Cytokines, Environment, SES, and HIV (CADENCES HIV).” Dr. Beach’s proposed objectives within CADENCES-HIV are two-fold. First, Dr. Beach will examine if biomarkers of systemic inflammation as well as social determinants of health measured at both the individual and neighhorhood levels can help explain excess heart failure risk with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) among people living with HIV (PLWH). Second, Dr. Beach will leverage the results from the first objective to develop an EMR algorithm with the goal of improving prediction of HFpEF among PLWH.

With proposal lead mentors Drs. Mercedes Carnethon and Lisa Hirschhorn, Dr. Beach will also pursue mentored training in structural equation modeling, predictive analytics, and machine learning. Dr. Beach will participate in career development activities sponsored by the Third Coast Cardiovascular and Sleep Disorders Career Development Program, a multi-institution and cross-disciplinary initiative between the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (K12HL143959).

Congratulations to Dr. Beach on this outstanding achievement!
