Dr. Kathryn Macapagal was recently featured in a Northwestern News round table discussion on interdisciplinary sexuality research at Northwestern. In conversation with Dr. Jennifer Nash and ISGMH affiliate faculty members Drs. Héctor Carrillo and Aymar Jean “AJ” Christian, Dr. Macapagal discussed the growth of the Sexualities Project at Northwestern (SPAN), emerging themes in current sexuality research, and the importance of using an intersectional lens to study sexuality.
“I hope the sexuality studies field increasingly focuses on wellbeing, and people’s regular sex lives and everyday experiences,” mused Dr. Macapagal, “I understand the importance of the disease-focused lens — common in public health spaces — but there are also other ways that sexuality affects your life.”
